![]() The Aether 1x12 in Natural AAAA+ Curly Ash. |
The Aether 1x12 (at left)
is the newest edition to the KWCABS family. In ancient Greek mythology
Aether was the air of the Gods. And that is what the drivers in our
newest masterpiece push. It is a new ground breaking design similar to
our ST-1 but in a differently voiced smaller package. The new Aether
revamps small cabinet tone. It has a tremendous about of tone in a
10-15% smaller unit than the ST-1. It features all of the same
features as the ST-1. These small cabinets combine serious power with
a unique tone. The new integrated rear port design is as innovative
and precise as our original porting design, but allows for the smaller
footprint and slightly more open airy sound. They are the
ultimate cabinet for the small setup professional or amateur alike
especially those who favor a fat mid-range. Players for which size and
weight are a large concern will greatly appreciate the ability to have deep
wide range bandwidth previously unavailable in such a small package.
The unique mid-range voicing is what sets the Aether apart tonally.
While difficult to describe, it is both fat but at the same time slightly
Southern sounding. Being a smaller cabinet, it naturally lost a small
bit of bass response, but by adjusting the rear port proportions we were
able to tune the mid range voice to compensate for the lower bandwidth and
likewise create not only a unique but extremely versatile tone. It
features all of same high quality craftsmanship as all of our cabinets.
It comes loaded standard with Eminence©
high power 150 watt speakers in a variety of tonal flavors. Of course,
many others are available as options. Prices are the SAME as the ST-1 line (Above). |

The ST-2v (previously ST-1) is the original KWCABS design. We set out with a simple goal: to create the best made best sounding 2x12 available, period! The sound is immense; for a 2x12 they rival just about any 4x12 on the market for full sound. The ST-2 line comes in two trim levels the ST-2v (at right) comes in a variety of colors and woods. It excels in Jazz, Blues, and Rock; however it well suits any style of music. The ST-2v features three medium size ports and a 2/5ths removable back. Closed it provides warm tight bass with crisp highs and very smooth mid-tones. Open the bass rounds off a bit and provides sparkling highs and super-smooth overall tone. All cabinets feature cut recessed handles and removable grills. They come loaded standard with Vintage 30s and a host of other speakers are available at special request. Prices Poplar - $639($769-Retail) Flamed Maple - $839($999-Retail) *Many woods are offered as custom offerings and some at no additional charge.

The ST-2m (at left) also comes in a variety of colors including some designer hues. It is primarily suited towards Blues, Rock, and Heavy Rock/Metal. It also provides an incredibly accurate and clear clean tone, especially when combined with acoustic electric guitars. The ST-2m features four slightly smaller ports than the ST-2v which offer very tight low end response and cutting highs. However, it is also capable of wonderful smooth mids and highs for leads. It features the same 2/5ths removable back as the ST-2v and removable grill. They come loaded standard with your choice of Vintage 30s or G1275s as well as custom offerings. Prices Poplar - $649($779-Retail) Flamed Maple - $849($1,009-Retail) *Visit the Materials & Finishes section for more info on available woods or feel free to ask.

| The new
standard 4x12 line, designated ST-4, will captivate you right off the bat.
The first thing, aside of course from the gorgeous hardwoods, that you will
notice is that the ST-4 features the same innovative port design as our 2x12
line. The ports are much smaller than the ST-2v or m, and they are
tuned to add just that little extra bandwidth to set them apart from the
pack. Upon closer inspection though you will find even more details
that make KWCABS what they are...simply the best. The handles have
been position much higher up than most of the competition's, and with good
reason. As you are no doubt aware a 4x12 is a heavy object, and having
to bend to lift these heavy cabinets up in the air can not only injure you,
but your cabinet as well, because if you drop it, it will cause even more
damage. Therefore the handles are set at a very comfortable distance
that will lift the cabinet up just a few inches off the ground making it
easy to maneuver. Of course casters are available as well.
The next point to notice is the speaker configuration and wiring. All 4x12s come with 2 sets of different but complimentary speakers. For example the cabinet shown here is loaded with 2 Celestion Vintage 30s and 2 Celestion 30th Anniversary speakers. The two make a wonderful blend. Not only are there 2 types of speakers, but also 2 mountings. The more modern set is always front mounted, and the more vintage rear mounted, and they are mounted diagonally opposed. This creates an excellent blend of modern and vintage tones in a very subtle way. The wiring is also unique. They appear to be wired the same as our 2x12 line, 16 ohm mono, 4 ohm mono, 8 ohm stereo, and an extension output. The difference is in the stereo component. It is not the traditional left and right, but rather the two types of speakers. In other words, Left might be the Vintage 30s and Right may be the 30th Anniversary. This allows the user to use two different amps and run them through what is effectually two different cabinets. |

How many
4x12s have you ever seen that offer a removable back? There are very
few I can assure you, but KWCABS, is all about flexibility. Not only
did we decide to offer a removable back, but we want to come up with a
version that was innovative as well. The problem with most open back
4x12s is that in most 2x12s when you have a removable back you are managing
to capture a portion of the direct 180 degree waves from both speakers in
the cabinet. When you attempt to do this on a 4x12 is often leaves a
muddy sound, which is not why you want to open the back of your cabinet.
The reason is that while the top two speakers are producing sound in a
reward direction, the bottom two are still in a virtually closed cabinet,
and the only way there sound waves exit from the rear is because they
reverberate in the enclosed space until the get to the open section.
This all happens extremely quickly of course, and one might say that it is
very subtle, and sometimes this is true, but why not correct it. And
that is just what we have done in ours. The open back is not simply a
top or bottom panel, but as you can see it is a specific portion of the
middle section vertically. This manages to capture sound from all 4
speakers and in a controlled fashion. The result is a 4x12 open back
that sounds the way many 2x12s do, crisp, jangley and responsive.
One thing is for sure, you will certainly enjoy an ST-4, it is simply the best cabinet out there. There are plenty of options, woods and colors available, so feel free to personalize your cabinet and prepare yourself for a great sonic journey.
